Die Abrissbirnen

‘Die Abrissbirnen’ translates into ‘The Wrecking Balls’. Their goal is to have fun – for the players as well as forthe listeners. And as their listeners are mostly dancing the Abrissbirnen can make funny faces while playing – no one watches them anyhow! (However THEY can watch the dancers – and that’s the best feedback possible…)

The repertoire consists of danceable songs of different genres, played as they come out of their instruments (clarinet, fiddle, lap steel, guitar, bass and washboard). And as they do like to improvise no song will ever sound alike. You’ll hear old time tunes as well as original compositions, ragtime and early jazz but also western swing, country and country blues. Hits only. Of course…

They have a weekly gig each Tuesday at Die Blaue Stunde (Berlin-Kreuzberg), where they often feature specials guests who are traveling through town. If those guests are touring with their own – much more famous – bands you will find the Abrissbirnen having a ball in the audience…
